Task 3: Social media considerations/ issues

Three issues associated with the use of social media tools are:

Privacy Concerns

Social media platforms offer varying levels of privacy for users but most of these platforms also use the user's personal data in many ways, either for their own benefit or for the commercial benefit of other commercial enterprises. Users are also the target as well as the source of information with the platforms - whether it is for commercial purposes or personal information collection. People leave 'footprint' on the internet which will remain there forever and may include things from their past they wished were not there./

Technological Issues

The internet, and therefore all social media tools, all rely on being connected. Connections can fail in many ways, from failure of the actual internet connection to a blackout . Lost passwords, the server going down right up to the  malfunction of a satellite can all contribute to the social media tools not being able to work.

Other issues can be that some of the platforms may be 'user-friendly' for one person and not for another. Also, not everyone wants to, or is able to, gain access to certain social media platforms. An example of this would be a library member lets everyone know that the library meeting photos are on their Instagram page and half the other staff do not have an Instagram account.

Copyright

Copyright laws are being broken every minute worldwide every few seconds due to social media. As an example, most of the 75 million users of Twitter, the 2 billion users of Facebook and the 30 million users who update their blog monthly, would not be checking if the content they are uploading, tweeting or re-tweeting is copyright-free or are aware of the copyright laws. If they are, most would also not be citing the ownership of the content or even know how to retrieve such information.
