Task 5: How libraries are using social media
Here are five libraries that are using different aspects of social media:

a library Instagram page
The Los Angeles Public Library's Instagram page has over 44 thousand followers and they have five different sections: Exhibit, Art Cards, Library Book, #Central25 and Central Font. There are nearly 2000 posts, which include banners for up and coming events at the library.

a library blog
New York's Liverpool Library's blog has pages and pages of posts on a wide range of subjects,. The ones on the most recent page include blogs on an actor channeling Freddie Mercury (from Queen), a new streaming service that helps you sort through the myriad of shows to watch online, a message pinwheel in a street garden and the Shazam music app.

Blacktown Library - in outer-Sydney - has a Youtube page, linked from Blacktown City Council's Youtube page. There is one which has a brief video of the Library and the services it provides. There is also some Baby Rhyme Time videos (which have had between 2000-4000+ views each). These are at least nine year sold.

Austin Public Library (in Texas) has a very active Facebook page with over 21,000 people 'following' it. The most recent posts are for events such as a Bullet Journal course, a Summer Reading Splash (where school students can meet their favourite authors and do activities), a library-hosted visit to West Austin art studio, a ukulele jam session and a celebration of fifty years of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Toronto Public Library's Twitter page boasts they have the world's urban public library system. They have had a Twitter handle since 2008, have 48,000 followers and have tweeted 30,000 times. As of writing, they had tweeted nine times in a 24 hour period about events at the library so they are a very active Twitter user.
Blacktown Library - in outer-Sydney - has a Youtube page, linked from Blacktown City Council's Youtube page. There is one which has a brief video of the Library and the services it provides.
